Directors of Education Centres - Applications closed since July 27th
Applications for posts of Directors of Education Centres are currently being sought in the following locations:
Education Centres are an essential part of the national infrastructure for the delivery of inservice training to teachers and the wider school community, both in terms of national inservice programmes and in terms of meeting locally researched and identified teacher and school community needs. Centres are also a meeting and resource centre for the local school communities and develop expertise in certain key areas. Directors are employed by the Management Committee of the Centre, on a secondment basis, subject to contract.
Applications are invited from suitable interested teachers, who must be fully qualified and must be currently employed as recognised teachers in recognised primary or post-primary schools or be recognised teachers who are currently on secondment to either a Support Service or an Education Centre which is currently funded by the Department Of Education and Science

National Co-ordinator of the Modern Languages in Primary Schools Initiative
pictured on the day the Initiative’s Progress Report 1998-2004 was delivered to the Education Centre. The Report will be launched at the National Primary Languages Conference which will be held in University College Cork on May 31st and June 1st.

KILDARE EDUCATION CENTRE RERURBISHED
AT A
COST OF £700,000. THE MINISTER O F EDUCATION & SCIENCE
DR. MICHAEL WOODS PERFOMS OFFICIAL OPENING
The Minister for Education and Science, Dr. Michael Woods, T.D., today
officially opened the newly refurbished Education Centre in Kildare town.
The Centre, formally a parochial house, was extended and refurbished by
his Department at a cost of £700,000.
Speaking at the opening, the Minister said that Education Centres throughout
the country provided a great service to the development of our education
system. He said "by delivering locally organised courses and in-service
training specially for teachers, Education Centres make a vital contribution
to education in the regions. Being aware of the needs of teachers at local
level keeps us in the forefront of education".
Dr. Woods said that the Kildare Centre had made a special contribution
to in-service training for the Revised Primary Curriculum, the new Leaving
Certificate English Syllabus, the Physics and Chemistry Initiative, RSE
and Substance Mis-Use Prevention Programme and various curricular initiatives.
The Centre has also been very active in its Support Programmes for Principals
and Boards of Management of schools.
The Ministerpaid a special tribute to the work of the centre for its
organisation of the "Pilot Project for Modern Languages in Primary
Schools". The Minister referred to this project as the Centre's Piece
de Resistance, wIth "over 3UU schools involved, up to 600 teachers
and 17,000 pupils", He congratulated the Centre for being the recipient
of the European Language Label Award for innovative language learning
for its management of this project.
In conclusion, the Minister thanked the Bishop ofKildare and Leighlin,
Dr. Larry Ryan and the local Catholic Clergy who made the building for
the Centre available to the Department. He also thanked all those involved
in the refurbishment project. He congratulated the Director Anne Kelleher,
the Management committee, parents and teachers who have done so much to
promote the cause and welfare of the Kildare Education Centre.

On the occasion of the official opening of the Education Centre Kildare, Friday 13th October 2000.
Minister, friends, distinguished guests, thank you for your kind words. I am privileged today to thank most sincerely all those who made today's official opening possible.. Firstly, a great debt of gratitude is due to the Bishop of Kildare & Loughlin, Dr. Larry Ryan and to the Diocesan trustees for their generosity in providing us with this beautiful house, in such a beautiful setting. It is your legacy to the educators and greater community whom the Education Centre serves. Your faith in us gives credence to the art of possibility.
