Modern Languages Initiative
Acknowledgement came from the Department of Education and Science
in association with An Institiúid Teangeolaíochta
Éireann in 1998 when Kildare Education Centre was chosen
to project manage the nationwide delivery of the Introduction
of Modern Languages to Primary Schools initiative. The Director,
supported by the Management Committee, plays a vital role in facilitating
and supporting the programme, developing of ideas, organising
the training of the facilitators, and the efficient administration
of the programme. Managing this project also involves developing
relationships with the N.C.C.A., Colleges of Education, Embassies
and Cultural Institutes.

Modern Languages in Primary Schools Initiative:
There are currently 3,654 teachers involved in MLPSI schools nationwide and their continued support of the Initiative
is gratefully acknowledged. The number of schools involved in
the Initiative has risen to almost 400. The National Coordinator
of the Initiative is based in the Centre and she works closely
with the Director to ensure the smooth running of the project
and strategic planning for the future.
