Kildare Education Centre
Established in 1997
The aim of Kildare Education Centre is to provide support to the teaching and wider education community of Co Kildare, East Offaly and
West Wicklow .
Kildare Education Centre supports:
- the delivery of professional development courses for the Education community at a local and national level
- the PPDS Advisors
- the provision of ICT Training inclluding Whole School
- Consolidation of curricular review through support groups and local courses
- Whole School planning and development
- Induction of newly qualified teachers
The Centre is involved with many projects some of which include:
- Write a book
- Birds in the School Yard
- E-twinning
- FIS film project
- T4
- Seismology in Schools
- TL21 Transfer Initiative
- Discover Sensors
The Centre engages with many agencies some of which are:
- PPDS - Primary Professional Development Service
- SLSS - Second Level Support Service
- SESS - Special Education Support Service
- NCTE - National Centre for Technology in Education
- TPNs - Teacher Professional Networks
- TPCs - Teacher Professional Communities
- NEPS - National Educational Psychological Service
The Centre Management Committee is elected annually at the AGM by the members of the Centre.
The Director of the Centre is Dolores Hamill.

The Middletown Centre for Autism is a North-South initiative, developed with the purpose of supporting the promotion of excellence in the development and co-ordination of education services to children and young people with autism.
PARENTS of autistic children are invited to attend a Parent Training Session - details as given below:-
Date: Fri 21st January 2011
Venue: Kildare Education Centre
Time: 10am - 3pm (Light Lunch will be provided)
First Session – 10am-12Noon
Communication and ASD
Parents and relatives are well aware that communication is challenging skill for children and young people with autism and one of the core features of difficulty. This training session will consider the manner in which children and young people with autism communicate. It will suggest strategies to help those with and without language to communicate their needs more effectively. Parents will learn to teach the power and process of communication as a means to help their child connect with others and the environment more effectively.
Second Session – 1pm-3pm
Managing Anxiety for Children with ASD
This session is an introduction to using cognitive strategies to alleviate the experience of anxiety in children and young people with ASD. This will include an introduction to the theory of cognitive behaviour therapy and some strategies that are recognised as effective in helping children and young people cope with their anxiety.
This session is most suitable for parents of older children and young adults with Asperger's syndrome who already have a good understanding of ASD.
Learning outcomes:
- an understanding of cognitive strategies
- some strategies that may be useful.

Title: "Easing the Transition from Home to School" - A transition programme for children with ASD
Target Audience: Mainstream and ASD Specific Unit Teachers, Learning Support, Resource Teachers and Teachers in Special Schools.
Content
This course outlines the Cross-Border Parent Community and Schools Partnership Programme ‘Easing the Transition from Home to School’ which is a transition programme for children with ASD. This programme was developed by teachers, therapists and trainers from schools in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Course participants will receive a transition pack.
Learning outcomes
· Increased understanding of the transition process for children with autism
· Participants will become familiar with the transition pack ‘Easing the Transition from Home to School’.
· Teachers and parents will have the skills, knowledge and resources to successfully implement the transition pack in their setting.
