PDST Teaching Fundamental Movement Skills in PE DODGING in GAMES

* * Revised Date for Blessington No. 1 School Venue of: TUESDAY 13TH MARCH 2018 (3.30pm-5.30pm) * *

This 2 hour PDST workshop will explore the concept of Physical Literacy using the new Move Well, Move Often resource for primary schools by focusing on how teachers can teach Fundamental Movement Skills in a PE strand, namely the skill of DODGING in the GAMES strand.

Dodging is a locomotor skill that involves quick and sometimes deceptive changes of direction to evade or catch an opponent. The skill of dodging is evident in a wide range of playground activities and is a central component of most team sports. Dodging takes the skill of running and incorporates dynamic, fluid and coordinated movement, allowing the pupil to change direction proficiently.

This activity based workshop will include an overview of the Games Strand, Physical Literacy and Fundamental Movement Skills. Participants will be guided through a range of exciting games and activities that develop children’s dodging skills and will receive a resource booklet outlining the activities undertaken, planning tools for teaching FMS in PE and advice for teaching Games in school.

This is an active workshop, so please dress accordingly.
